As Memorial Day approaches this Monday, summer road trips are already calling. Are your travel plans for the summer set? Here is a checklist: Is your travel gear prepared? Have you created your music playlist? Have you reconfirmed your Airbnb bookings? Awesome! The last thing to check off is your journey's vehicle: your trusty Subaru.

The success of your summer road trip heavily relies on your vehicle's condition. New Motors Subaru is here to tackle all your Subaru service needs, guaranteeing trouble-free travels this summer. Filling up the gas tank is just the beginning; here are five more steps you can undertake to prepare your Subaru for an unforgettable excursion.

Make Your Vehicle Comfortable

Your vehicle will be your home away from home during your trip. Whether or not you have planned stays along the route, you'll be spending considerable time in your car. Just as you keep your home clean, your car should be free of dust, grime, or mess before hitting the road - aim to keep it tidy throughout the trip.

Before departure, bring your Subaru for a clean-up at our local car wash centers in Erie, such as the Niagara Car Wash. Utilize their vacuuming services to clean the floor mats, rear seats, and hidden corners. Make your car's interior as spotless as feasible before your family hops in because, honestly, it likely won't stay that clean for long (especially with children onboard).

Check Your Tire Pressure

Low tire pressure is a double-whammy for drivers. Besides potentially leading to a flat tire or tire damage, it also decreases fuel efficiency. When you're on the road for an extended period, these inefficiencies can add up. Check your tire pressure before your trip, inflating them to the recommended PSI level (noted on a sticker near the driver's door). Normally, it's best to check your tire pressure every 1,000 miles (and rotate your tires every 5,000 miles, or six months).

Should you have consistent problems with tire pressure or if your tires are significantly worn, consider getting new ones. Our Tire Center is ready to help you find the perfect tires for your Subaru.

Keep Your Vehicle Hydrated

Just like you'd carry a water bottle for your summer road trips, ensure your car's six essential fluids are at their optimum levels. Unless you're a long way off your usual 7,500 – 10,000-mile oil change schedule, get your oil changed before departure. Confirm that your transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid are filled up.

To maintain a comfortable journey, keep your coolant and windshield fluid levels up. Low coolant impacts the air conditioning system and results in weaker airflow, reduced cooling efficiency, and an uncomfortable ride for everyone. You'll thank us for the windshield fluid when hundreds of smeared bug bodies are obstructing your view and you're miles away from the nearest gas station.

Plan Your Playlist Ahead of Time

Spring has already given us a rich mix for a road trip playlist, whether you're still soaking in the latest epics from Beyonce and Taylor Swift or taking sides in the Kendrick-Drake feud. Ensure your music choices are finalized before your trip begins. Long journeys can lead to complacent, careless behavior, and the moment you get distracted by your phone could put an abrupt end to your summer plans.
